Five Fatalities For What?

Another day, another horrible reminder of the uselessness of the mission in Afghanistan. Five young Canadians joined the scores of others who have given their lives for political posturing. Does anyone actually think that when Canada withdraws fully in a year or so, Afghanistan will be better because of the Canadian and their allies deaths? The culture of bribery, corruption and the rule of the gun, a culture that has been in existence for hundreds of years, will simply take over again. We can not change Afghanistan, to think that we can in a few short years is rediculous!!Bring our soldiers home now!!! Leave them there and we will lose more to death and terrible injuries and then we will leave and these last deaths and injuries will have been equally in vain. But politicical maneuvering must be maintained in the eyes of the world. If the politicians were fighting, we'd have been out of there long ago!!! My heart aches for the men and women and their families, needlessly put in harms way for political expediency. There is a way to achieve as much, if not more, using US superior technology, and it has worked before. When the Libyan leader, Quaddafy, was a pest, the US simply bombed one of his palaces and he immediately quieted down. That is what must be done. Strategic use of technological weapons when targets are identified. Bring our soldiers home and let smart weapons do the work until they sue for peace. Right now they don't want peace because they know they can wait out our forces with guerilla warfare, but if they have to live daily with the threat of smart weapons for decades, and no immediate targets for them to strike, peace will be a much more appropriate alternative.

Tiger's Terrible Toll

Two American economics professors, with little to do, figured that Tiger's escapade as the Ladies Man, has cost shareholders up to 12 billion, yes billion dollars in stock losses. This is a cumulative total for all the companies that Tiger represented, like Gatorade and Nike. This billions in losses represents only about 2% in share losses. But, how much did Tiger's name boost share prices before???? I bet a lot more than 2%!!

Get ready for the major bowl games. Alabama will handle Texas, Ohio State will go down again in Pasadena and Florida is going to kick Cincinnati's butt. As for the Super Bowl, if Indy gets there, they win.

You've got a perfect season on the line and you've wrapped up a playoff spot. Do you rest your main guns in a close game or do you keep them in to maintain a perfect season? Colt's Coach Caldwell decided to rest the stars and lose the game, saying later that a perfect season was never a goal of the teams????. Disappointment was obvious on Manning's face at the move. Will be interesting to see how this move affects the psyche of the team. To work so hard to achieve a perfect season and then have the coach throw it away may be a hard pill to swallow. If adversity rears its ugly head in the coming games, this move by Caldwell will be seen as the move that brought bad Karma to the team. You don't mess with karma when a team is going well.

Raptors claim their fourth straight win over lowly Detroit. True the competion has been less than steller in these games, but hey, they did what they were supposed to do, and in the past few years, they have had problems with these types of games. A middle of the road team is what they are and building confidence is an important part of getting to the next wrung.

Team Canada laced Latvia at the World Jrs., 16-0. Latvia was totally outclassed in every aspect of the game. Some of the Latvian skaters were slower than molasses.

Porn's Pernicious Problem!!

Well is this a surprise or what??? An Aids advocacy group has unsuccessfully tried to have rubbers on all male porn stars. Reason is that in the last 5 years, a clinic that serves these people has found that 3,700 cases of STDs were identified. A judge dismissed this case saying there are already measures being taken by public health. The money shot wouldn't be as good if the guy had a rubber, was another reason that was rumored to weigh heavily on the judge's mind.

All of a sudden, all is quiet on the Tiger front, but I think it's the quiet before the storm. Elin's lawyers are talking to Tiger's and the best for Tiger Inc. is as little a mess as possible so expect a quick resolution with as little public squabbling as possible.

Another unsuccessful terrorist attempt to bring down an airliner, too bad for the travellers in the next few days who will have to pay the price for increased security measures. Delays, searches and frustrations will be in abundance for the rest of the holiday season at all airports in the west.

Merry Christmas to all, but I'm not in a very merry mood as another one of our brave men and women in Afghanistan has paid the ultimate price! And for what? I feel sorry for the relatives and friends of the fallen, for they will always bear the hurt and anguish of having lost a loved one in this unwinable, drain-hole called Afghanistan. The British tried twice and the Soviets tried recently and all have failed to control this country. What makes us think that we will do any better??? One needs to really understand the situation in Afghanistan to understand why we will never be able to bring peace there and, bringing democracy is even more of a fantasy. The Afghans, a tribal society, have been fighting between themselves for centuries, the only time they have united is to face a common enemy, like a foreign power trying to control them. When the foreigners finally give up, after many years of guerilla fighting, soldiers dying and needless, wasteful expenditures, the Afghani's go back to their tribal warfare. There is no law other than the law of each tribal chief and the gun. Bribery and corruption is a way of life. Survival of the fittest and the most powerful is how society operates there. For westerners to think that we will make any lasting change is the epitomy of colonializationist thinking. We are seen as colonizers, as people who do not belong, and they are just waiting us out. In the meantime, our sons and daughters will continue to die, and a conservative 18 Billion dollars have been wasted. When Canada pulls out, and pressure is mounting to remain, what will the final costs be in comparison to what has been accomplished? Close to 200 Canadians killed; 30 Billion spent; a corrupt government in Kabul teettering in power; less than half of the country supposedly under control; the Afgani army and police untested,unreliable and addicted to drugs, and the Taliban rising in power and influence in Afghanistan and the tribal areas of Pakistan. What a mess!! What a folly!! Get out as soon as possible. A military solution is not possible, therefore our military should get out! NOW!

AVATAR ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

Just saw it, and though I was a bit disappointed with the 3D, was expecting more eye-popping effects, the intricacies and beauty of Pandora were spellbinding. The movie is an allegory of the native vs colonizer saga. Similarities abound between the Pandora inhabitants and North American natives, again was looking for more originality than this overworked theme. During the movie certain scenes reminded me of scenes from other movies, a very disquieting feeling. One in particular reminded me of the Lion King!! But visually, the movie is a must see, and word of mouth and the hype will make this a money maker even if 400 million has been spent. Great flick to take kids over 10 to, younger will have a problem with the scarier moments. And sexy aliens??? They are in this movie. The female lead from Pandora can take me to her leader any time, even if she is sporting a tail. One thing about being on in age is that when you've seen as many movies as I've seen, one tends to be more jaded and picky. Someone said that all stories and movies are about 7 or 8 general plots. Avatar uses a very simple plot to show a visually stunning movie.

Where has the year gone?? Time keeps marching on, especially when you're having fun!!!

COACHES CONSUMING COGNAC

Recent games in the NFL have shown some coaching decisions that make me believe coaches are high on something, otherwise how do you explain the major lapse in judgement by a number of coaches. Exhibit A: Steeler coach, Mike Tomlin, with his team taking the lead by 2 and about four minutes to go, decides to go for an onside kick instead of going deep and letting his defense do their job. The onside kick was unsuccessful and Green Bay uses a short field to score a TD and go ahead. Lucky for Mike and the special teams coach, the Steeler Offense drives the length of the field to score on the final play of the game. Asinine call by the coach is overcome by the offense, or major repercussions would probably have taken place in Pittsburgh after the way the Steelers have slumped lately. Not so fortunate is Exhibit B, Jim Zorn, Washington Redskins head coach, at least for now. Early during last night's game, Washington was deep in Giant territory in an obvious field goal situation. The Redskins lined up in a run and shoot formation where the center is by himself and the majority of the team is spread out to the left, and the QB is 6 yards behind centre. The Giants not expecting this, call a headsy time out to neutralize the surprise. Now since the Giants call the time out and prepare for this play, it makes perfect sense for Washington to forget the surprise play and just kick the field goal. Nope!!! Zorn goes ahead with the surprise play, which is no longer a surprise play, and gets an interception as his reward. A terrible call, by a terrible coach on a terrible team. Nice knowing u Jim, you won't be coaching in Washington next year, maybe Pop Warner teams are searching for a coach.

Got another guy to bet me Tiger will take the entire year off, can you believe that!!! His sponsors will just sit back and let him do nothing?? Tiger will watch the Master, the US Open, the British Open and the PGA on TV???? R U KIDDING ME!!!!! No way will he sit back and watch. His way of getting out of this mess is to be successful at what he is known for! That's what he is, the best golfer in the world!!! If he is looking for some good times, winning majors is how he will feel better!! Not sitting at home watching the majors, or maybe he will take up knitting so he can watch the Majors and be busy??? Easiest money I've ever made is betting Tiger won't stay out a year!!

TIGER'S TRIPLE TRIUMPH

I find it interesting that many people think Tiger will take a long break from golf. Some have bet me that he'll take three years, another more recently bet me he'd take the entire year off. These people just don't know the Tiger, don't know the heart of a competitor, the single-mindedness of a champion closing in on Jack's record. There is no way on earth, other than his death, and Elin has been forbidden to be in possession of any golf clubs, so Tiger is safe, that tiger will miss the Masters, let alone the entire year. What makes it even more interesting for Tiger this year, is that three of the courses hosting Majors this year, are courses that Tiger has won multiple times on!! No, Tiger is on a mission, and family problems or not, that mission is winning Majors; and having won none last year, the urgency is even greater this year. See you at the Masters, Tiger!! My prediction for this year is Tiger wins three majors guaranteed!!

Times are tough in the Maritimes when the lobster fisherman are selling most of their catch dockside for whatever they can get. The recent recession caused the lowest prices in many years and the last resort is selling for whatever can be had. It's a sad and desperate time for many of these fine men and women. Went to PEI for the first time last summer and had the time of my life there. The people are magnificent!!! The kitchen parties are the best and the friendships made will last a life time!! I can only hope that things will improve sooner then later.

Climate Conference Confusion!!!

Well, what did you expect!!! Nothing of any consequence came out of the talks other than the promise to work on details at a later date. Work on details later?? Here is the problem. Rich countries have been hammered by the recession and globalization. Their economies are in a slow spiral downward with more and more manufacturing going to poorer countries who pay diddly for wages. These hurting richer countries, in particular the ruling political parties, can not move in any significant way on climate change without doing even more harm to their economy and thereby, being seen as managing the country improperly and losing the next election. Therefore, they hold back and little is done while poor countries increase manufacturing and production and pollution. We are done people!!! Our only hope is that the controversy over climate change and whether it really is a human creation or a natural phenomenon, is a phenomenon and we can keep polluting to our hearts content. But, my gut feeling is we are harming the environment, species are becoming extinct at an alarming rate and the polar ice caps are indeed disappearing. We need the world to be taken over by a benevolent alien race who will come in and fix our problems, cause we can't.

Tiget is changing his name to Cheetah, it's faster. And how appropriate that Tiger was named Player of the Year by his peers. Of course Tiger is THE Player!!! He's been playing Elin and a number of other ladies for a long time. Tiger the ladies man is now also THE player!! Looks like Elin is going for the throat!! She's hired the mother of all divorce lawyers and screw the prenup, Tiger, Elin wants half of Tiger Inc., or about 250 Million. Wow Tiger, that was some choice tail. Hope it was worth it. But what do you expect from a guy who's friends called Erkel while in university at Stanford. Thank God Tiger's dad has passed away and has not been forced to see the low his son has stooped to. Wood's senior had envisioned and prophesied that Tiger would have an amazing impact on the world as a humanitarian. But trying to make every woman happy, one at a time, was a little too much even for Tiger!

Bush's Blunders Blossoming Part Deux

Another day, another Bush blunder coming home to roost. Iran has invaded Iraq today. Not a full scale invasion, just a start, perhaps. Iraq and the US are minimizing the situation, saying it is just Iran taking over an oil well on disputed border territory. What is evident is that Iran is emboldened by the weakness of Iraq caused by the American invasion and gutting of the Iraqi Military. It doesn't hurt that the rulers in Iraq are now Shia followers, the same as in Iran. What is the US going to do? Invade Iran? Not going to do it! They wont do a thing other than bring pressure through the U.N. and that wont do a darn. Once you open Pandora's box, we are stuck with the results. Bush and his looney tune advisors have opened more than Pandora's box in Iraq. They opened the gates of hell for Iraqis and possibly most of their neighbors in the near future. What I hope wont be the future is the realization that the only way to deal with this situation is to use massive US force in the way of air, missile and possibly small tactical nuclear weapons, while limiting the use of soldiers in foreign lands. This strategy would be better accepted by the average American, who is tired of getting nowhere with conventional means. We are already starting to see the beginning of this with greater reliance on unmanned drones bombing targets in Pakistan villages. How would Canadians feel if the US bombed a house in Winnipeg and thirty people in neighboring houses also died? That's what is happening in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. If Iran keeps on with their aggressive actions, look for a joint massive air and missile strike by the US and Israel, against the Iranians that will target political leaders, top military commanders, installations and Nuclear facilities. Damage will be minimal and the message to Iran would be clear. YOU ARE DONE SCREWING WITH US!!!!

Tiger's marriage is done!!! so sad, so bad. But what do you expect when Tiger thinks he can bang anything that looks good and is willing.

What started as the Iraqi invasion and subsequent waste of lives, money and American prestige, is about to bring down another casualty. Pakistan is on the brink of a coup, if it hasn't happened already. The military is opposed to the political leadership's cozy relationship with the Great Satan, and believe it or not, more people in Pakistan believe the US is the Great Satan, than don't. The recent upsurge in violence in Pakistan is the Taliban's reply to Pakistan's military moves against them. The military has not been happy succumbing to American pressure to deal with the Taliban. Corruption is a part of the Pakistani political culture and payments to Pakistani political leaders by American moneymen has been suspected. I guess they haven't given enough to the Generals!! If the Generals succeed, Nuclear arms will be that much closer to terrorist control. The instability in this area is a direct result of Bush's massive stupidity in attacking Iraq and Afghanistan and driving the Taliban and other terrorists into safe havens in the Pakistani northwest. Bush should go down as the worst president ever. He may end up being responsible for the entire Middle East going up in flames. That's what happens when people, Bush and his advisers, who are naive and ignorant of geo-political realities, take control of the presidency!!!! Now if Sarah Palin gets elected, she'll make Bush look like a genius!!!

How to Save Millions of Dollars

Short answer: get rid of the Senate. If Canada gets rid of the senate, we save millions of dollars each year. Brief History of the Senate: It was originally constructed to be a check on the House of Commons, why ???? because the House of Commons was to look after the people in general, but the Senate was to protect the interests of the elite, the wealthy from us poorer Canadians. This should no longer be the case. Now the Senate is just a repository, or is it a suppository, for old political cronies who have been rewarded with a senate seat, a nice salary and an even nicer pension. Fiscal responsibilities now, and continuing in the future, demand that we do some belt tightening, and getting rid of the Senate is one easy and painless way of saving millions. Oh and if you haven't heard, Senators are flying around the world at our expense for personal travel. Get rid of these free riding loafers. The Senate is an anachranism and serves no purpose other than wasting our money!!!

Looks like a very good deal for the Blue Jays for Doc. Taylor is an outstanding prospect for the outfield and Drabeck, if he's included is a keeper as a starter. Hope it is finalized soon.

Who's the most up and down team in the NFL, Arizona !!! They laid another dud last night. You never know who will show up for them, but I'll bet you they win their next one!!

Oh What a Weekend!!!

Had a great Poker party that started at 2 am and ended at 7am.   Lots of beer, food, stories and poker!!!! Wagers were small, no one got hurt and a fun time was had by all.  Just a regular guy thing!!!

Woods fallout keeps getting worse, number presently stands at 13 ladies.   Word is Elin is going to say screw the money and ask for a divorce in the new year.   She probably walks with at least 10 Million. I guess living with Tiger for six more years is too much to ask for an extra 60 million.  She'll take the 10 mil, keep her pride, and start fresh.   Classy move, I wonder if Tiger will take me for a couple Million for two years???

Canada is getting hammered at the Climate Summit in Copenhagen.  She has received six Fossil Awards from the world community for her lack of commitment to preventing emissions.   New rumors have Canada reducing her 20% emission cut target for 2020 and saying 10% is more realistic and will be in line with whatever America does. So if America does 5%, so will Canada. With this attitude from the US and Canada, say goodbye to the polar bears and us soon after!!!

Tiger Wants a Mulligan!!!!

How much time would you take off from your job if you were caught cheating on your wife?? Most employers would give you a little time, but the healing process is something that is ongoing and has to be done on your own time in the future and having to do with the communication and actions between a husband and wife. Either she forgives you and is willing to start over, a Mulligan, or she says screw you Tiger, I'm here till the 70 Million is mine and then I'm gone faster than some tarts text message on your phone. Time is nice, but I think this is more Tiger's handlers asking for time for this whole mess to fade, than Tiger's personal wish. No matter what time is given, when the Tiger returns, the circus continues. Paparazzi will follow Tiger hoping to get the shot of him and a lady?? going into a late night tete a tete. Word on the street is that Tiger had the name of a tart or two in every major city his personal jet flew to, now that's a ladies man!!! It also shows you what money and fame can do for you.

Oh and by the way, Tiger winning a court order in the UK banning publication of any nude photos or video of Tiger in the nude, or having sex, is a blow to all the ladies wanting to know what all the fuss was about. No images of Tiger using his nine iron in a long wet patch will be seen. We also wont see any fist pumping, or tongue flipping, some of Tiger's famous gestures when he sinks the big one!! We will also miss Tiger's go for broke stroke when he tries to be as long as he can be. Oh well, we'll just have to picture it!!!!

The Republican Conspiracy

Sarah Palin will be the next Republican nominee, you can bet on it!!! That's the most scary idea I can think of. Sarah in charge of a nuclear power!!!! But, it fits the pattern that Republicans and their moneymen have established. Look at Reagan, old actor, little or no political savvy, easily led; Bush, father was part of the republican machine, a good soldier and easily led; son was also part of the machine, on the dumb side and easily led; Sarah, the most naive of the bunch, the most ill prepared of the group, easily led. McCain was the exception, a maverick, not easily led, but the leaders of the Republicans knew they would not win after the debaucle Bush made, so they could nominate a maverick in the guise of an open party, all the while knowing that McCain would not win. In the meantime they began grooming Sarah. Low brow, low class, ill educated, the perfect choice for president of the USA. And a perfect pawn for the Republican Party and their moneymen to continue policy that furthers their own personal interests. America being run by an oligarchy of wealthy brokers in the name of the Republican Party???? Yup, you better believe it!! Why esle would you want a candidate like Sarah, who is so unqualified for the position? Simple, she can be easily manipulated, influenced and controlled. There should be a minimum IQ test to become President, to prevent future Sarah's from running. As for the Republican Party, heaven help the world, they are established, have money and political clout. We are stuck with them, minimizing their efforts is the only course of action.

Nine years after the invasion of Iraq, bombs are still going off in Baghdad, people continue to die and the region is more unstable now than before Bush's adventure. Bush and his cronies are responsible for everything that happened, and is happening. His decision to go to war has resulted, conservatively, in the deaths of at leat 100,000, mostly civilian, and the complete breakdown of Iraq as a functioning nation. Are you a mass murderer when your direct actions result needlesly in the deaths of over a hundred thousand people? At the Hague right now people are on trial for far fewer deaths. Bush is a war criminal and he should be charged and tried!! "State of Denial", by Bob Woodward, is an extremely revealing read on how incompetant the Chaney-Romsfeld-Bush triumverate was. These three Stooges should be charged as war profiteers and war criminals!

Canadian pot smokers beware, the conservative feds are bringing a law in that could see a minimum 6 month sentence for anyone growing 5 or more plants. Except for Natives, of course, they continue to get special treatment and will not be treated the same. More lenient treatment will be meted out to natives, the rest of us second class citizens will bare the full extent of the law. How do I get an Indian Card??

Kanadian Kicker Kicked

Redskin's Canadian kicker Shaun Suisham was let go after missing a crucial 23 yd. chip shot that would have beaten the undefeated Saints. My favorite lady driver, the only one I like, Danika Patrick, is going to race the good old boys in NASCAR. Poor Danika, she didn't like it when drivers drove poorly before, she will go absolutely banzai when she is intentionally bumped and cut off by those red neck gentlemen in Nascar. I'm sure those good old boys will welcome Danika with open arms. She is in for a bad reality check. "Ain't no damn sissy girl gonna beat me", was one comment that I'm sure is held by many! Attempted suicide, Tiger getting back at her with a seven iron, too many drinks while on downers, who knows. But the story wont die and the paparazzi will be all over Tiger for a long time!!! Maple Leafs have sold everything but their jock straps and given away two first round picks, in the name of rebuilding. Blue Jays are shopping Doc Halladay, arguably one of the top three pictchers in baseball. Oh if they could shop a package that included Vernon, I'm a Dandy, Wells, then it would be worth saying goodbye to Doc and Wells and get a pile of money to shop around for other players. Then there is CB4, Chris Bosh, another All Star seeking to leave the Raptors. How about a straight up trade with Chicago, for The Black Hole, Joakim Noah. In his first year, Joa was a bit of a joke. The ball would go into him and would never come back out, he either shot, drove, was fouled, or lost the ball, hence the Black Hole reference, nothing gets out of a Black Hole. But this year a turnaround of huge proportions has taken place and the Black Hole is having a super year being the big man in the middle. The Raptors need rebounding, like Tiger wishes it would all go away, and The Black Hole fits the bill. Let's hope they go after The Black Hole. Sorry, but this is comedy and the best golfer in the world, with zillions of dollars, is a perfect target for us mortals to laugh at. By the way, the over under on how many the Cat has banged is 33. Bu, how many will actually come out and claim their piece of the Tiger pie. I do feel sorry for Elin. Then, I think of the 70 or so million she will eventually get in the next few years and I don’t feel quite as sorry. It truly is a different lifestyle for those wealthy beyond belief.
